Protect Your Child’s Vision With Myopia Control

With more kids developing myopia (nearsightedness) at younger ages, early intervention has never been more important. Left untreated, myopia doesn’t just mean stronger glasses every year, it increases your child’s risk of serious eye conditions later in life.

That’s why we offer MiSight® 1 day lenses, the first FDA-approved contact lens proven to slow myopia progression in children. Our goal is to protect their vision now and preserve their eye health for the future.

What Is Myopia & Why Does It Matter?

Myopia causes distant objects to appear blurry, and it typically develops in childhood. In most cases, it progresses throughout the school years, meaning your child’s vision gets worse every year.

But the concern goes beyond blurry vision.

As myopia progresses, the eyeball elongates, which increases the risk of serious conditions such as:

  • Retinal detachment
  • Myopic maculopathy
  • Early cataracts
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration

MiSight® 1 day: FDA-Approved Myopia Control

MiSight® 1 day lenses are soft, daily disposable contact lenses specifically designed for children with progressing myopia. They correct vision while also slowing the elongation of the eye, helping reduce the long-term risks associated with high myopia.

These lenses are:

  • Comfortable and easy to wear
  • Designed for children as young as 8
  • Clinically proven to slow progression
  • Disposable — no cleaning or storage required
  • Safe, soft, and child-friendly

Dr. Dodds and our team will guide your family through every step from determining candidacy to lens training and ongoing monitoring.

Who Is a Candidate for Myopia Management?

We typically recommend MiSight® for children who:

  • Are between the ages of 8 and 12
  • Have a family history of myopia
  • Show signs of rapid prescription changes
  • Spend a lot of time on screens or indoors
  • Are experiencing blurry distance vision

If your child already wears glasses and their prescription keeps increasing, it’s time to talk about myopia control.

Our Approach to Pediatric Myopia Care at Today's Vision 242

We take a collaborative, education-first approach. During your child’s myopia management consultation, we’ll:

  • Perform a comprehensive eye exam
  • Discuss your child’s lifestyle, symptoms, and risk factors
  • Take baseline measurements, including axial length
  • Explain treatment options, expectations, and follow-up steps

We schedule regular check-ins to monitor changes and adjust care as needed keeping you informed at every stage.

Not Ready for Contacts? We Have Other Options

MiSight is our preferred option, but we understand contacts aren’t the right fit for every child or family. For younger kids or those not yet ready, we offer:

  • Ortho-K
  • Atropine drop therapy
  • Outdoor activity and screen-time guidance to support healthy eye development
  • Ongoing vision monitoring to catch changes early

No pressure — just honest support and realistic recommendations based on your child’s needs.

Start Myopia Control Early & See the Difference

Myopia progresses fastest between the ages of 8 and 14 and early action matters. If your child’s vision is changing quickly or you’re ready to explore long-term options beyond stronger glasses, we’re here to help.
